Benjamin Wolf
Benjamin is a board-certified OB/GYN (Germany) and gynecologic oncology fellow with a strong interest in translational oncology. Before joining the Steele Labs in 2023, his research at Leipzig University focused on mechanisms of loco-regional progression of gynecological tumors - mainly cervical cancer - and the evaluation of novel surgical strategies to improve disease control. At the same time, continuous collaboration with soft matter physicists helped him to advance our understanding of how tumor cell motility and shape affect cancer cell behaviour and metastasis. On this journey, Benjamin became interested in the mechanisms of lymph node metastasis, one of the most significant yet underinvestigated prognostic parameters in solid cancers. His current fellowship in the Jain lab allows him to temporarily transition from clinical research to basic science to investigate how changes in the tumor microenvironment affect lymphatic tumor dissemination and anti-tumor immunity. He is particularly interested in understanding how lymphatic drainage acts as a double-edged sword in both promoting effective anti-tumor immunity and lymph node metastasis, and how it can be targeted to improve cancer prevention and treatment.
